"The whole point, the only point, is to find the things that matter and hold onto them, fight for them and refuse to let them go"
So Friday was tough, the worst day of prep yet.
My nan, the woman who helped my mum bring myself and my sister up was rushed into hospital. She has been going downhill for a little while, but the pain she was in was unbearable she was paralyzed in bed because of it, even the first 10mg of morphine she took wouldn't take any of the pain away.
Seeing the beautiful woman that looked after me, that taught me morals (and made the worlds best mashed potato) turn into a frail old lady is heart breaking. The whole family came down to help out and eventually we left Nanna in hospital just after midnight, hoping the second dose of morphine would kick in so she could get some rest.
Having spent time working in acute hospitals as an UG Dietitian I know how they work fairly well and unfortunately this means nothing much will be done other than pain relief until Tuesday. So as long as she is more comfortable than she has been then that's positive. I have so much respect for nurses, they are simply wonderful and truly do care for their patients.
It been emotional but it has shown me the real things that matter, its not work, its not university and its not this contest prep - its being there for family. Everything was dropped yesterday - (cardio and regular meal consumption included) to be at my nans bedside, because ultimately that is what is truly important. I can catch up on cardio on Sunday when things calm down (hopefully), and I can compete every year for the rest of my life if I want to, but being with my family is what is right at this moment.

I had a long chat with my sister last night, about dieting. She is an Olympic lifter so follows a diet plan herself - she is trially carb back loading at the moment. We came to the conclusion that both of our ventures are "obsessive passions" . If you want to be good, you have to make sacrifices and you do have to be slightly obsessive! Although some people may see this as a negative, we have to use this "obsessive" personality trait to our advantage, to flip it over and make sure only positives come from it. In 2014 we are launching our own business, to incorporate all our skills - Dietitian, Personal Trainer, Tutor, Trainee Sports Psychologist, Yoga Instructor, Exercise to Music Instructor, Cooks and Researchers. Our aim is to help people have bodies they loves, but also healthy, positive minds, to not provide people with "quick fixes" but lifestyle, behavioural and psychological changes to help them long term.
SO...back to bikini prep: I love to push boundaries and challenge myself and I have completely fallen in love with the learning about nutrition, training and posing for this prep for the Miami Pro World Championships, to say it has changed my life in an unimaginable way is an understatement. I cannot wait to get on stage in a week now - adrenalin will be flowing but I think I am finally ready to show off all this hard work!
